The First Grade team includes seven teachers with a total of almost 100 years teaching experience. We have regular education classes, bilingual classes, and ESL classes. The teachers on the team graduated from the following universities: University of Houston; Texas Tech University; Louisiana State University; University of St. Thomas in Houston; University of Autonomous of Coahuila; and the Region IV Alternative program. Their teaching experience ranges from kindergarten through adult education. Because of this wide range of experience, our team can identify the individual needs of their students.
Our year long theme in first grade is Interdependence. It is of vital importance to emphasize that all living things are dependent on one another. We feel that it is essential to offer our students opportunities to experience and develop a basic understanding of their role as it relates to themselves, others, and the environment.
Our goals are to offer students an environment that is conducive to learning and to offer them many opportunities to expand their knowledge. We feel that first grade sets the foundation for all future learning - especially that of reading and writing.
The teachers in first grade are truly dedicated. We have the support of one another, and we share ideas that enhance our instructional lessons. The First Grade teachers focus on developing the "whole" child.
